Alan Ranger is a professional photographer and qualified photography tutor based in the UK. He teaches and leads location based photography workshops around the UK and Europe where he supports and instructs photographers, of all levels, the art of camera craft and creative composition. “A passion for photography combined with deep understanding are the most important attributes of a photographic tutor. Alan combines these two qualities in equal measure. His obvious enthusiasm is bound to inspire his clients and help them achieve ever higher standards” – David J Ward
Alan uses the camera to express the excitement of life; this is not done through imitation, but by pulling together strands of creative thought and weaving them into masterful reflections of feeling and insight. Disciplined yet inventive, his inimitable approach allows him to turn unremarkable moments in to extraordinary images, depicting the remarkable journey through life.
He has developed his personal style after more than 20 years’ experience: through expression, perception and a deep understanding of creative intention. Alan uses this understanding to coach clients in a simple, clear manner – inspiring each person to discover individual instincts.
Alan Ranger is an Associate of the British Institution of Professional Photographers (ABIPP) and also holds an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society alongside three other photographic institution accreditations.
Alan’s landscape photography work is not merely a snapshot of what we see; it mirrors how we feel. A glance at his photography illustrates this concept – capturing the energy of the land and depicting the emotion of that specific moment in time. He says “I love the beauty of a landscape image, not because of what or where it is but because it reflects who we are and our individual connection to land, sea, sky and light.”
Alan’s landscape portfolio has been published in: magazines, national and regional press, books and broadcasting. Alan is recognised within his field of expertise and has been awarded 5 times in Landscape Photographer of the Year and has been a finalist for the past 3 years in Outdoor Photographer of the Year.
