Details

To a background of photographic images taken over a forty-year period, Chris Rainier describes why culture matters. From his ten years of living with stone-age tribes on the island of New Guinea to working with Eagle Hunters of Mongolia to help preserve their hunting tradition to journeying to the centre of the Sahara desert with the Tuaregs in search of an ancient salt mine that has been in existence since the 13th Century,

Chris weaves together a narrative of the importance of documenting these ancient cultures that live on the edge of modernity in the 21st Century. Rainier describes his early career work with the noted photographer Ansel Adams – who passed along the importance of using photography as a social tool to make a better place to live for future generations.
