Documenting war and conflict is not just about being on the front lines, my passion focuses on the humanitarian side. In Afghanistan, where I have worked since 2001, decades of war has brutalized the country like no other. Almost no civilian has escaped being personally affected in some way. You will see work from my award-winning book Afghanistan Between Hope and Fear, published in 2016.

We will move onto how the brutality of conflict has forced entire populations to become refugees, where internally displaced people (IDPs) face lack of access to the most basic human rights concerning food, health care, and employment. Fleeing from Sudan to Uganda, the Rohingya of Myanmar fleeing to Bangladesh and the massive refugee migration from many war-torn countries to Lesbos, Greece. Finally, as an American expatriate living outside the United States for 20 years I came back to experience a very polarized nation full of anxiety and political upheaval.
