Details

The connection between humans and wolves goes back 10s of thousands of years when early humans began to domesticate wild wolves. Why is that? Why are domestic wolves, dogs, so widespread throughout the world? The bond between humans and dogs is unlike any other in the domesticated animal world. We allow them into our homes and part of the family, as protestors of our children or guards for our livestock.

Ronan Donovan has spent significant time watching wild wolves in Yellowstone National Park where wolves can easily be seen on a daily basis. The challenge, however, is to photograph them without interfering with their day-to-day lives. Wolves in Yellowstone are fearful of humans and therefore the images captured rarely portray the hidden side of their lives – rearing pups, playing, sleeping, hunting etc. There is a place where wolves have no reason to fear man – the High Arctic. Ronan travelled there in order to learn more about wild wolves and to be able to capture imagery that portrays their lives in a more holistic way.
