Seminar

Details

Alice Wielinga’s collaborative art project in North Korea was a journey of discovery of a largely unknown art world and an encounter with individual fellow artists who ended up being my mentors, colleagues and friends.

Alice’s first journey to North Korea resulted in the award-winning project ‘North Korea, a Life between Propaganda and Reality’ (2014). The next step was to actually work together with North Korean artists. Koen De Ceuster, an authority on North Korea art at Leiden University, made this possible.

Since 2017 Wielinga got to know a handful of North Korean artists and discovered what moves and inspires them. By working together, they started to see that despite our different circumstances, as artists, thay have a lot in common.
