The Power of a Story

Auditorium Xposure International Photography Festival Auditorium - Hall 5, Sharjah

Giles Duley takes us on his powerful journey - from fashion photographer to documenting conflicts, to how he himself became the story after being injured in Afghanistan. Despite losing three limbs, he returned to work and ten years later is still travelling the world documenting the impact of war.
During a difficult time for all of us, Duley reminds us, through his photography and personal story, of the power of the human spirit and what resilience truly means.

Falconry and the Arab influence

Auditorium Xposure International Photography Festival Auditorium - Hall 5, Sharjah

This essay illustrates the resurgence of falcons and modern falconry through the efforts of the Arabian world, led by the United Arab Emirates. It begins with wild Saker falcons high in the mountains of Mongolia then on to artificial nesting sites on the Mongolian Steppe sponsored by Abu Dhabi. 5000 artificial nesting sites have been created to make up for the lack of natural nesting sites.

Documenting Turmoil from Afghanistan to USA

Auditorium Xposure International Photography Festival Auditorium - Hall 5, Sharjah

Documenting war and conflict is not just about being on the front lines, my passion focuses on the humanitarian side. In Afghanistan, where I have worked since 2001, decades of war has brutalized the country like no other. Almost no civilian has escaped being personally affected in some way. You will see work from my award-winning book Afghanistan Between Hope and Fear, published in 2016.
