What was once viewed as a fringe genre of the art world, has now seen a real renaissance in recent years with an explosion of contests, festivals and exhibitions all over the world.

British photographer Jason Hawkes, who has been shooting aerial views for over 20 years, gives an insight into how he works when hanging out of the side of a helicopter from 2500ft. His work has taken him across Europe, the Middle East, and Americas working with such diverse brands as Apple, Amazon, Rolex and Coca Cola.

In 1986, the first generation of Chernobyl was created. Responding to the accident, enduring the evacuation, containing the radiation by building the sarcophagus, they were duties to them. No one complained. No one withdrew from the hardship. Their children became the second generation of Chernobyl.

When working for magazines and advertising agencies you have to be able to supply images that not only answer the brief but also target the right message and fit the desired formats, allowing space for type and cover headlines.

In 2010 when David Chancellor started this project he realized that in order to fully understand this region, he would need to not only observe the people in-depth, but also the complexities of their relationship with the wildlife with which they share their land – including conflict and poaching of endangered and vulnerable species.

Over the last ten years, National Geographic has evolved from wildlife stories with a focus on behaviour towards features that shine a light on issues of wildlife conservation and animal welfare.  Beautiful wildlife images make people care about the natural world, but the stories that need to be told, the photographs that must be seen, are the ones that shine a light on our relationship with the natural world.  

An interview with World Press Photo of the year winner John Moore by World Press Photo foundation director Lars Boering. They will have a conversation about what It takes to work on a long term documentary journalistic project and how images are being used in many ways by media and politics.

At the age of 27, Florian Ledoux quit everything in his life to live his dream; A strong appeal toward Arctic wildlife and photography. Ledoux sailed 6 000km from Greenland over the course of eight weeks to Nunavut in order to explore and the document the Arctic Wildlife. This became the opportunity to create an image that would change the rest of his life. But at the time he quit my staff photographer job in the French Navy, he had no idea what the future had in store for him.
