For more than a quarter of a century, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Essdras M Suarez has covered all sorts of stories varying from the mundane to the extraordinary. This exhibition is curated in two sections. An Eye on Cuba and A Life of Images.
An Eye on Cuba
Even though Essdras M Suarez was born and raised in Panama. It was his Cuban family that raised him. Thus his proclivity to keep going back to Cuba as he’s trained his cameras on the place and its inhabitants during his more than 30 trips to the island. According to Essdras, he still finds himself mesmerized by the colors, textures, the culture, and most importantly by the people of Cuba. Despite their political turmoils and their everyday vicissitudes, it is the Cuban candor and pure joie-de-vivre that continue to steal his heart.
A Life In Images
Retrospective collection: Among the stories covered by Essdras were the Columbine Shooting- the first large-scale school shooting in the US. The Iraq War, Haiti political turmoil, and the Indonesia Tsunami among others. He has seen the best and the worst the human spirit can offer. And to this day, his belief remains the same as when he first became interested in journalism: Human beings are by far the most interesting creatures on the planet and most of them are good and worthy of having their stories heard and seen.
