Composition.

Whether you realise it or not, the composition is the first thing people see in a photograph. It is common that many photographers encounter difficulties with composition. Alan Ranger will discuss the importance of proportion in photographic composition, starting off with the photographic frame, and then moving onto subject placement, and then go to more specific forms of proportion such as balance, the rule of thirds, golden ratio and its variants.

Geometry & Lines.

This Workshop will look at the rules and conventions of composition, and also when you should break them. Alan will also talk on some of the processes of composition, lens choice and visualisation.

Building on what you learn about proportion, you will add geometry and lines to the equation and will explore how the use of verticals, diagonals, and horizontal lines affect your images as well as how various shapes can be utilised in isolation and in patterns.
