Los Angeles based automotive photographer Richard Thompson III draws on a life-long love of cars to create high energy, atmospheric imagery for his clients. Richard is regarded as one of the best three Automotive photographers in the world.
Trained at the Savannah College of Art and Design, his background combines elements of film, photography, and visual effects with a genuine passion for all things automotive.
Richard was raised in a family of car lovers, early experience in the racing world enables him to shape photographs bearing the essence and character of each car. In one year alone Thompson was creating imagery for clients including Bentley Motors, BMW, Chevrolet, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Pagani Automobili.

“Consistency is the most important thing in this profession,” says Richard. “I find this rings truer for me with each passing year. Talent is a prerequisite for good photography, but focus and consistent progress are the only ways to make it into a sustainable career.”
Richard’s work is a mix of editorial and fine art. His photos have innate movement, even if the car is parked. It’s a style he’s developed, and developed well. “For anyone in commercial art, I believe craft is comprised of different registers, which dictate the ratio of “work” vs “art” and usually it’s a blend of the two.”
