A World Without Photography
H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi talks with Sally Mousa about the multi-genre content that is an integral part of Xposure along with his own passion for photography and some stories about what goes into a picture behind the scenes.
From the festival theme, our marketing plan was to express the importance of photography in our world, Xposure created a hashtag #worldwithoutphotography and rented a few billboards in the regions that displayed just a white canvas. This was done to enforce the value of the image and the emotion that photography can create and why an image is stronger than words. As a result, several newspapers followed the imitative and produced front and back pages with text and white spaces where normally you would find images.
The exhibitions we curate are generally based on strong storytelling with a good narrative. These components provide the educational value, that is important to us, and not just galleries with random images hung on the walls
His Excellency also discusses how a good photographer creates a connection to a subject as second nature and is he or she is able to manage the content and message to be delivered through the image.
Organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the four-day XPOSURE 2019 featured 1,112 works by 357 photographers from around the world. It also offered amateurs, professionals and hobbyists in the region a unique opportunity to hear and network with 53 leading names in the industry through a variety of technical workshops, and focus group engagements as well as seminars. The festival attracted 15,000 visitors over the 4-day event.
